Insoles & Custom Footbeds
Straight out of the box, a pair of ski boots comes fitted with a factory insert that merely provides a soft, slick layer at the base of the boot, allowing your foot to slide into the boot with relative ease while providing a non-intrusive level of support.
Feet are naturally unstable structures, which allows them to adapt to different terrains in our environment. However, inside a ski boot, we need our feet to be stable and supported.
Ski boots are designed around the shape of a ‘neutral’ foot — neither pronated nor supinated. Factory inserts do little to address this, as they were never actually intended to be skied on.
For some skiers, a simple trim-to-fit insole, such as a Superfeet insole, is a sufficient and cost-effective alternative to the factory insert that comes with a ski boot.
Taking your boot fit to the next level requires a Bumps Custom Moulded Footbed which creates the foundation for boot-fitting excellence by providing the optimum level of support for each foot.
Most of us have slight differences between our left and right feet. These differences can create asymmetries in our ski stance, often resulting in one turn being better than the other. They can also lead to comfort issues, with one foot experiencing more discomfort than the other.
Having a Custom Footbed fitted during your ski boot fitting is the most important step you can take to minimise these issues.
Custom footbeds are made from multi-layered, heat-mouldable materials that form to the exact shape of your foot. A custom footbed enables the sole of the ski boot to contact the entire underside of the foot, evenly distributing pressure, reducing fatigue, and improving proprioception and sensory response.
The key goal is to hold the foot in a stable, supported and optimised position. At Bumps, we use methods, techniques and technologies from brands such as Masterfit and Sidas to create custom footbeds.
